ABOUT THIS TECHNOLOGY:
The Pentium 4 is an unusual phenomenon in PCs, a processor as well suited for a Mainframe computer as for a Workstation or Server.  Why?  Because of its unique streaming, net burst and micro-decoder caching architecture, in theory, the Pentium 4 could achieve speeds which exceed the very best RISC systems, yet it is NOT a RISC CPU.  It has an unusual 4 phase-like 400 MHz Front Side Bus which, instead of running from a single 400 MHz bus-clock, uses on its front side, 4 overlapped 100 MHz bus-clocks, producing an extremely high speed front side bus, for most rapid transfers of data and instructions, without pushing the sourcing clocks up too high.  The Pentium 4 architecture is designed, as the chips get smaller, to support up to a 600 MHz bus clock, using a 150 MHz source (4 of them), so you can see that by combining conservative design with an aggressive architecture, Intel potentially has a real winner in the P4.

RAMBUS memory is a requirement for this kind of system, as the ability of the system to accommodate up to 600/800 MHz worth of memory demand, makes old 133MHz SDRAM quite limited in this application.  Aside from communicating better and being more concurrent, RAMBUS also has better error correction, leading to a superior performing system.

SCSI160 Hard Drive technology is normally reserved for high-end workstations and servers.  You really can't get much faster storage, and the Seagate Cheetah 10,000 RPM SCSI160 Hard Drive is the fastest of the most reliable drives made in the industry.  Extremely fast bootups, tremendously fast program delivery and incredibly quick data lookups, typify the use of this kind of extraordinary hard disk drive.  The addition of RAID capability in HARDWARE eliminates the overheads associated with Windows 2000 Software RAID, achieving volumes sizes up to 2 Terabytes per storage array, and improved performance using Disk Striping technologies.  This system is also 100% compatible with Linux, and may be used with Linux Software RAID if preferred.
